On Thursday, September 11, around 2:55 p.m., shots were fired within Bryn Mawr and Drake. There is “no threat to the university”, according to Campus Shield, NEIU’s notification system. NEIU PD was alerted to the shooting and rerouted to the Chicago Police Department (CPD), with two cars that were on site.

The Independent reached out to CPD on site, who declined to give additional comment, other than to confirm it was a shooting.
Allegedly, there were between 5 to 7 shots, with at least two confirmed shell casings on site.
Several students who were entering Pedroso Center on Drake Street heard gunshots.
“It’s Chi-raq, just another day in Chicago,” said Alex, a marketing major. “People shouldn’t be too scared or upset about it,” he said before adding that he was glad no one was hurt.

An eyewitness within the neighborhood alleged that two vehicles were driving around the block when they heard the gunshots close to their place of residence.
A follow-up notification from Campus Shield confirmed that “no injuries were reported” in connection with the shooting.

I know this happened 4 months ago. I don’t know what’s more alarming: the shooting happened near schools, homes, or that the student in this article says “no one should be upset or worried about it”. LOL WHAT? Once people start getting angry about it, they will start taking steps to do something about it. Being passive about gun violence is NOT IT.
