Calo Ristorante is a family-owned establishment that has operated since 1963 in the heart of the Andersonville area, offering a diversity of Italian and American cuisine including steak, chicken, fish, fall-off-the-bone BBQ ribs and, of course, pizza.
The dining room is decorated with natural brick walls, featuring murals and photos of Old World Italy. There is also a floor-to-ceiling window for customers to feel immersed in the rich atmosphere of the surrounding neighborhood.
For this review, I purchased a 14-inch Thin Crust Cheese Pizza with pepperoni, which cost $16.50 plus sales tax.
The pizza crust is cooked to golden brown perfection, but it is the pepperoni that shines the brightest. Each sliver of pepperoni enhances the flavor of each slice with a hint of char that further compounds the already rich flavor. The cheese is also perfectly melted but not overpowering, which allows for a fine balance of flavor.
Of course, no pizza is complete without its sauce, which is one of the most essential ingredients. Calo Ristorante’s house sauce emphasizes the tanginess of the cheese and pepperoni. All the flavors fuse together in perfect harmony.
Upon first bite, the consumer is momentarily transported to Italy, especially because of the surrounding Italian imagery inside the establishment.
For those who desire tranquility as opposed to the normal hustle and bustle of the Andersonville area, Calo Ristorante is the place to go.
