Breaking News: Faculty Senate Passes Confidence Vote in Interim Provost to Assembly

The NEIU Faculty Senate passed a resolution for the Faculty Assembly to hold a confidence vote in the Interim Provost and Vice President of Academic Affairs, Andrea Evans, in a special meeting on May 4,2023.

Evans was originally hired by NEIU in 2018 as director of the Carruthers Center for Inner City Studies (CCICS). She was appointed Interim Provost by President Gloria J. Gibson in 2022.

In her time as Interim Provost, Evans has directed a reorganization of NEIU’s colleges and called for budget cuts. She has also been criticized by the Faculty Senate for her lack of communication.

Members of the Faculty Assembly, made up of the professors and instructors at NEIU, have until 8 p.m. Thursday, May 11, 2023 to vote that they have confidence, or no confidence in Andrea Evans. The ballot is available through an email that faculty members received from adoodle.org. The vote is confidential.

The confidence vote in Evans is symbolic. However, the results of the vote will be a message to the president, or the interim president, who ultimately has authority over who holds the post of interim provost.

The results of the vote will be announced after 8 p.m. on Thursday, May 11, 2023.
