What was originally a scheduled game against Columbia College turned into an electrifying back-and-forth matchup between NEIU’s men’s basketball team and members of the NEIU community. The game took place on Saturday, Mar. 29 at NEIU’s P.E. Complex.
NEIU jumped to an early 17-15, but the community team quickly caught up and occasionally took the lead themselves.
Despite a strong effort from NEIU, the final score was a narrow 60-63 loss. Still, the game thrilled the crowd, keeping spectators on the edge of their seats.

Player Spotlight: Jeremiah Word
The lead scorer of the evening for NEIU with 25 points was Jeremiah Word, sporting jersey number 22 and a junior undergraduate student at NEIU majoring in criminal justice. When asked about his team’s performance, Word admitted that although they were doing well overall they were beginning to “trickle down during the second half, but our passes were pretty good.”
