The Northeastern Programming Board (NPB) held their annual Late Night Breakfast event on Thursday, Dec. 5, 2024, with help from the Korean Culture Club, Health Services, WZRD, NEIU’s Phi Rho Chapter of Alpha Phi Alpha, NEIU’s Iota Chapter of Sigma Iota Alpha and NEIU’s Pi Nu Chapter of Alpha Kappa Alpha. During the event, they had music courtesy of the WZRD, gingerbread house decorating, a photo area, a raffle, a pinata and, as the name suggests, breakfast food.
Breakfast food options consisted of croissants or pancakes, oatmeal, eggs, bacon or chicken sausages, chicken or sweet tamales, and yogurt. As for drinks, the NPB provided hot chocolate, coffee, orange juice or apple juice.
Over 100 NEIU students, faculty and staff attended the event, some of which included Dean of Student Affairs Dr. Terry Mena, NEIU President Dr. Katrina Bell-Jordan, several of the Student Government Association (SGA) students and several greek life students, all helping to run the event through serving food and running the activities.
Once again for this year’s ticket raffle, they were giving away a 32-inch TV. But there was a second raffle through use of the pinata. While students were taking turns hitting the pinata, there were balls inside with different numbers, with each number attached to different prizes ranging from a stuffed animal to a speaker. There were several prizes for the students who caught a ball to win.
Many of the students were involved in the activities, the most popular being the pinata. NEIU student Omar Soto later said, “The event late night breakfast in the fall 2024 semester at NEIU was a fun night where everyone got the chance to sit down, eat their favorite breakfast foods and chat with their friends. For me the event gave me the chance to talk to one of my friends I have known since high school. He works at NEIU and due to him having to work and me having classes it was really hard for me to see him and talk.” This event allowed many students to take a break from the stress of finals week to enjoy one of the last events of the semester.
