Between August 19th and August 22nd, several Independent editors had the opportunity to work on radio coverage during the Democratic National Convention (DNC) with WZRD 88.3 FM and Pacifica Radio. These editors with some additional WZRD 88.3 staff traveled to different parts of Chicago for various coverage on the impact from Chicago natives as well as those who were traveling from outside of the DNC.
Several Protests throughout Chicago, including the Coalition to March on DNC, who protested at Union Park, smaller-scale protests like the Poor People’s March, with people that marched over 2,000 miles from the DNC which was only held about three weeks prior to the convention.
Limited coverage within and around the surrounding areas of the DNC locations, which was in United Center and at McCormick Place. This also covered some of the protests and marches that came as a result of some people protesting other issues during this time.
Panels that had to do with local as in state politicians, as well as national, with some of the events within the DNC.
Some editors even had their hand at experimenting with audio editing software, in order to have daily coverage for the broadcasts.
While for some, it was a bit of a learning experience, for others they were able to take to it quite well.
