These installations hover between sculpture and drawing and between the polarities of delicate and awkward. Boundaries and demarcations between inside and outside the installation are fluid with the vieweralternately assuming the role of spectator and participant. The sculptural forms are abstract but reference/respond to the body and frequently appear to havea function/use although one that is never clear. Inspirations for these forms include: armor, weapons, musical instruments, prosthetics, and bondage toys. Other influences include Dada absurdist objects/images; machines, including flying machines; and a range of post-minimalist works.

Flying Machines runs until Sept. 21, 2012 at the NEIU Fine Arts Center.
