April 2, 2020

The Northeastern Illinois University Campus Recreation and Physical Education Complex will remain closed through May 1, according to an email distributed by the university The announcement follows  Gov. J.B. Pritzker’s decision to extend Illinois’ stay at home mandate until April 30.

The measure is aimed at blunting the spread of coronavirus COVID-19. Illinois confirmed 7,695 cases of the novel virus to date. As of Monday, Illinois’ coronavirus-related death roll surpassed 150, with many experts anticipating a spike in transmission.

Northeastern Illinois University suspended face-to-face instruction last month, transitioning to a predominantly online education model. The university–which preemptively canceled its 2020 Spring Commencement plans last week–encourages employees to work from a remote location when possible.
