Skip Bayless goes on angry HORSE rant against LeBron James, Zach LaVine
April 16, 2020
Skip Bayless missed the memo about HORSE. You see, a game thrown together by executives desperate to produce original content quickly devolved into the equivalent of an elderly man yelling at children to get off his lawn.
Bayless, who works alongside (read: argues with) NFL Hall of Famer Shannon Sharpe on Fox Sports 1’s Skip and Shannon: Undisputed, took particular umbrage with Chicago Bulls guard Zach LaVine trying to win the televised game of HORSE
Paired up with Allie Quigley of the WNBA’s Chicago Sky, LaVine used his remarkable athletic ability to overwhelm his opponent. Quigley, a three-time WNBA All-Star, joked about her inability to counter LaVine’s leaping ability, understanding that HORSE is an inconsequential game that would never warrant national broadcasting barring remarkable circumstances, such as a worldwide pandemic.
Rather than enjoy a relatively noncompetitive child’s game, Bayless took to Twitter to suggest that LaVine is a coward for resorting to what he deemed to be underhanded tactics.
“Big of you, Zach LaVine,” tweeted Bayless. “You’re a two-time Dunk Contest champ & you resorted to using leaping acrobatics to beat an Allie Quigley who readily admitted she doesn’t have the ups. You made the 2nd most threes ever in an NBA game, and you were afraid to challenge her from distance.”

Bayless also used the lighthearted contest to take jabs at Los Angeles Lakers’ forward LeBron James, lumping in James’ absence with the four-time NBA Most Valuable Player’s unwillingness to participate in the NBA’s 3-Point and Slam Dunk contests.
“Wonder why LeBron didn’t participate in yet another stand-alone contest – the HORSE tournament,” wrote Bayless. “No Dunk Contest. No 3-Point Contest. No televised HORSE.”

Utah Jazz guard Mike Conley Jr. eventually won the HORSE contest, defeating LaVine in the finals. Conley Jr. also withstood former Indiana Fever forward Tamika Catchings and former NBA Final MVP Chauncey Billups.
