Visiting Writers Series

– [post-date] –

Jennine Capo Crucet, award-winning author of How to Leave Hialeah is the first of three literary artists to visit Northeastern Illinois University’s (NEIU) campus during the semester as part of the Visiting Writers Series sponsored by NEIU’s English Department and the Office of Cultural Events. Crucet, Assistant Professor of Creative Writing at Florida State University, recited poems about Jose Canseco, ferrets, friendship, birthdays and things Miami girls say. Afterwards, Crucet discussed teaching, comedy, spoken versus written poetry and her take on writer’s block. How to Leave Hialeah can be purchased at Beck’s bookstore. Kristin Naca and Kwame Dawes come to the campus Feb. 28 and April 11, respectively. For more information, visit http://www.bookclub.neiu.edu. Visiting Writers Series takes place at Recital Hall. Events are free and open to the public
